A digital presence built around influence, science, and storytelling, positioning Thomas Crowther not only as a scientist, but as a public voice shaping conversations on ecology, restoration, and planetary systems.
The platform needed to be more than a personal website, a digital ecosystem connecting research, environmental advocacy, media presence, and long-term initiatives. The challenge: feel academically credible while staying emotionally engaging and visually refined.
We began strategy-first, with information architecture, narrative structure, and audience journeys. Content was organised to balance accessibility with scientific depth, so the platform speaks to researchers, collaborators, organisations, and the public at once.
Large typography, immersive imagery, and structured layouts create a calm reading experience that puts the research first. A serif carries authority in headlines; a neutral sans keeps dense scientific content legible. A sage-green and neutral palette keeps the ecology reference quiet rather than literal.
The guidelines document the identity end to end, logo construction and clear space, the type scale, the sage and neutral palette, image treatment, and tone of voice, so future collaborators can extend the platform without diluting it.
To inspire global action by making environmental science accessible, hopeful, and capable of empowering individuals to restore the planet through collective effort.
The platform unifies publications, research, speaking engagements, and environmental organisations such as Restor. A modular structure lets each initiative stand independently while still reading as part of one ecosystem.
The architecture was built for growth, new books, articles, and initiatives can be added without disrupting the experience, and responsive behaviour keeps long-form reading consistent across devices.
The social platforms are designed to foster a thoughtful community. The portrait from the website hero carries across to the profiles, so recognition is immediate and the social spaces feel unified.
Rather than following short-term visual trends, the site was designed for longevity, clean, intentional, and built to reinforce credibility and trust over years, not seasons.
The result combines editorial storytelling, strategic UX thinking, and visual restraint into one cohesive identity, communicating complex environmental narratives in a way that feels accessible, human, and impactful.
